Video: How to Heal Your Gut Bacteria with Erica and Justin Sonnenburg

How to Heal Your Gut with Erica and Justin Sonnenburg For this week’s installment of Wellness Wednesday, I sat down with Erica and Justin Sonnenburg–two pioneers in the study of the relationship between our bodies and the trillions of organisms that inhabit it. This husband-wife team is pretty much Stanford University’s power couple of gut research, and they recently came out with the bestselling book, The Good Gut.

To continue my investigation into the best practices for eater’s digestion month, I talked to the Sonnenburgs about how we can nourish our good bacteria and, by extension, heal our guts. They had fascinating advice on the subject of dietary fiber and probiotics, including why a little gas after a bowl of lentils may not be such a bad thing…

Watch on below to find out why!

Love and black beans,
Phoebe

Wellness Wednesday is an on-going Google Hangout series where I interview the most bad ass experts from all sides of the health world. In each video, we talk about their personal journeys, professional prowess, and get to the bottom of how to apply their advice to your busy, hectic, hedonistic life.

  1. We were lucky enough to be able to watch this live this time!:) Great job, all 3 of you! We learned so much, it was a wonderful Wednseday evening for us here in Athens.
Keep up the great work Phoebe!

  2. Phoebe, I stumbled upon your blog after having a fascinating gut conversation at a party last night. I watched your whole interview, which was fascinating — and I like how you’re using the Google Hang to record. I use hangouts all the time but never considered posting interviews. Thanks for all the inspiration tonight. You have a new fan. I’m pretty cheese-centric in my tastes, but I love love veg and healthy recipes. Looking forward to trying some of yours.

    • Wow – Madame Fromage! I’m so happy you watched. You should check out the one I did with Dr. Robynne Chutkan too on the topic! It’s SUCH a fascinating research area right now. Very excited to begin writing that chapter of my book very soon 🙂 Thank you for tuning in and commenting! And p.s. some unpasturized cheese contains good probiotic bacteria!
