When you’re a New York City dweller, like myself, and naturally low on space, I find it’s important to really pair down your kitchen items to those essentials that are just as useful as they are cute. My Le Creuset Dutch oven (5) and Lodge cast iron skillet (7) are all you could ever need in a pot or pan. They’re also not bad to look at when plopped down in the middle of your table, especially if you get your Le Creusets in a variety of fabulous colors (I’m partial to Caribbean, Ocean, and Fennel). If you’re going to have measuring spoons lying out in the open, as I do hung from brightly colored magnetic hooks on the side of my fridge, you might as well make them heart-shaped (1). And if you’re prone to stocking up on more random grains than you know what to do with, it will only add to the rustic vibe of your kitchen to display them in mason jars on an open shelf (8), instead of tucked away in the pantry under last year’s half-eaten bag of jet-puffed marshmallows. (Yeah, it’s a problem.)
Here are my eight multi-purpose must-have cooking items that can also serve as kitchen accessories. For more, visit my Kitchen Essentials board on Pinterest.
