I kicked off the week with some wonderful lady love at Madison Square Garden. My friend Lydia took me to the Fleetwood Mac concert, and we danced the night away to Stevie wisdom and slow twirls.
The rest of the week I spent chained to my stove. I thought my fridge was going to explode from all the excitement. I had two big events back-to-back, followed by a very fun and fancy wedding last night.
I made 10 pounds of tropical trail mix to give away at the Theory 38 event that I catered and co-hosted with nutritionist Jessica Katz. The theme was health & style, and we sent everyone home at the end of the night with little mason jars of my favorite healthy snack. The event went super well, partially because I had great help in the kitchen and on the floor. You can see my helper, Kelsey, hard at work plating mini turkey meatballs with romesco sauce. I used spelt bread for the first time as the crumb base, and they turned out moist and delicious. The second hot passed dish was carrot-fennel soup shots.
The following day I was back at it prepping for a bachelorette party. One of my favorite parts about kitchen days is embracing some guilty pleasures on the TV while I while away in the kitchen. I went to high school with the bride-to-be and hadn’t seen her in ten years! There were some great blasts from the past, and it made the preparation even more special knowing I was sending off an old friend. It was of course only appropriate that I watch Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion while I cooked.
The bach evening idea is definitely one I’m going to steal. The bride’s sister-in-law rented out a nail salon. I filled the table and nail bar with mini roasted eggplant and pesto chicken salad sandwiches. The gals sipped gourmet cocktails while getting their nails done, and nibbled on beet and arugula salad and shrimp wonton crisps.
Since I didn’t get to play that much at my own events, I was thrilled to attend my friend from college’s wedding on Saturday. It was black tie mandatory, which I was grateful for when we arrived at the venue: Lincoln Center. I’ve never been to a more beautiful wedding. The hall of the Koch theater was covered in giant planters and hanging lattices. The whole room smelled like spring. Best of all, my mandatory floor-length dress was lent to me by a friend at Chanel. Holy moley!
What were the highlights of your weekend? Let me know in the comments!
